These working glasses are one of our favorite glasses. They have some heft to them, but they can hold a fair bit of liquids. There are optional lids which can be used to make a watertight seal so you can store stuff in them, keep your drinks inside despite being inverted, etc. They are not a replacement for canning jars however.

These glasses are NOT tempered, however, they are pretty tough owing to their thickness. We have dropped them, put them through the microwave and the dishwasher for years without ill effects except for the occasional chip. They will last you a very long time under normal use.

The lids are not microwave safe. We do not recommend putting them through the microwave.
