SHIPPING

Village Kitchen sells hard to find items, many imported, that customers can not find elsewhere. Although we try to carry sufficient stock of popular merchandise some items, like the brass duck press, just do not sell in sufficient quantities to stock. Please take the time to read our guarantee and return merchandise page.

SHIPPING TIME
97% of orders are shipped surface one (1) to ten (10) business days after the date we receive the order and payment. We charge your credit card after we issue the pick-ticket based on computer inventory and ship within three (3) working days. We will ask the shipper e-mail you the tracking number and estimated delivery date.
The exceptions are:
(1) Merchandise back ordered by the manufacturer or manufacturers warehouse. Domestic backorders may be delayed four to eight weeks. Imported backordered items will take longer due to shipping and production delays.
(2) Special Orders will take as long as it it takes for the manufacturer to fill the order, usually at least 8 weeks. All special orders will be charged a non-refundable deposit of 50%.
(3) High volume of sales because of holidays.
(4) If, when we pick your order, we find damaged or missing merchandise we will make an educated decision whether to wait or reverse your charge until the merchandise arrives.

INSURANCE
All shipments are fully insured by the carrier.

ADDRESS CORRECTION
Additional charges, $15.00 minimum per box, will be charged for address correction attempts made by the carrier.

DELIVERY CARRIER
Shipments are sent via FedEx Ground or Home Delivery. We do not ship or receive packages via the Post Office because our address is designated "rural". Ground and Home Delivery shipments are normally delivered in one (1) to ten (10) business days after we ship as shown by the map below.

SHIPPING RATES
Rates are calculated using the manufacturers published weight.

FASTER DELIVERY
In most cases we have found that most people find the non-ground shipping charges unacceptable because of the weight & size of their orders. As an example a dinnerware set that weighs 20 pounds costs roughly:

$ 59.00 FedEx Express Saver
$ 26.00 FedEx Ground/Home Delivery

DAMAGED SHIPMENTS
If you feel a shipment might be broken place the box in a plastic trash bag to catch any glass fragments and wear thick gloves and hard soled shoes before opening the package.
We do our best to protect your merchandise, however shipping damage occasionally happens. All shipments are fully insured so please report damage to us as soon as possible otherwise the shipper may deny your claim. Do not refuse the shipment as this will delay your claim. When you receive your shipment please inspect the box for obvious damage and shake the box to check for hidden damage. When you shake the box if it sounds like broken glass or gravel you most likely have hidden damage. Please report this to the driver before signing for the merchandise. If you discover damage after the driver has left please e-mail us the order number, tracking number and details so we can get your replacements moving as quickly as possible. The shipper will want to inspect the shipment so please keep all packaging and damaged merchandise for them to pick up.

Backorder Delays

We try to keep sufficient merchandise in stock however, occasionally we have to backorder merchandise and our situation is most unusual.  Retailers of most merchandise get their stock from local warehouses that get their stock from regional warehouses that get their stock from national warehouses that get their stock from the manufacturer.

The merchandise we sell does not have a warehouse network and we must buy directly from the manufacturer so there is no supply chain to cushion variations in demand. If the manufacturer runs short we have to wait until they obtain more. Occasionally this causes delays in filling our customers orders. We always have multiple orders in transit so your merchandise might arrive today or tomorrow - or it can take longer. Because of backorders by the manufacturer we can not be certain when any specific item will arrive.

Most of our merchandise is quite heavy and it is not economically feasible to ship via any other method than truck or boat. About half of our merchandise is manufactured or warehoused by the manufacturer in New York. If we unexpectedly run out of an item and the manufacturer has it in stock in New York warehouse it usually takes 3 weeks for us to receive more stock. If the merchandise is not in stock they have to obtain more from the factory or have the factory produce more and we have no control over the time it takes to receive the merchandise.

A smaller percentage of our sales comes from factories in Italy and France. These manufacturers have warehouses in New York and backorders usually take four (4) weeks to fill if they have it in stock in New York. If they have to order more from Europe the boat trip and customs usually takes three (3) to four (4) months - if they have it in stock in Europe.

We apologize for any delay and we will fulfill your order as quickly as possible. We get truckloads of merchandise every week. The manufacturers do not tell us when they will ship individual items or if anything is back ordered until we receive the shipment. Usually we can not give you a specific date when we will ship.
